The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for San Diego County and Orange County coastal areas, effective until 8 PM PDT on Thursday, September 10,
Daytime high temperatures are expected to range from the 80s (26-32°C) at the beaches to the mid-to-upper 90s (35-37°C) in higher coastal terrain. Overnight lows will remain warm, between the lower to mid-70s (21-24°C), offering limited relief from the heat. This warning replaces the previously issued Heat Advisory, reflecting the increased severity of the heat risk.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those without access to air conditioning. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. Additionally, warm overnight temperatures will limit recovery from daytime heat, compounding the risk. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes, posing a danger to children and pets left unattended.
